Yang Jiechi Chairs the 17th Round of China-Russia Strategic Security Consultation

On September 19, 2022, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi and Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev co-chaired the 17th round of China-Russia strategic security consultation in Fujian. The two sides have achieved positive results from their in-depth exchanges on bilateral relations, the international security situation, international affairs and coordination within multilateral frameworks. Both sides agreed to continue to make good use of the strategic security consultation mechanism as an important platform, implement the consensus reached by the Chinese and Russian heads of state during their meeting on the sidelines of the Samarkand Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, enhance mutual trust and support each other in pursuing a development path suited to respective national conditions, jointly maintain global strategic stability, and continuously consolidate and enrich the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between the two countries.

Yang Jiechi said that the guidance of the heads of state provides the fundamental guarantee for the development and vigor of bilateral relations. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, China-Russia relations have always maintained a momentum of vigorous development. The two countries have continued to deepen strategic coordination, firmly supported each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns and, as always, constantly enriched bilateral cooperation in various fields. The two sides have jointly safeguarded the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order underpinned by international law, and upheld international fairness and justice, setting a fine example for developing a new type of relations between major countries featuring mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation for the international community.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that recently the two heads of state had their second face-to-face meeting for this year in Samarkand. China stands ready to work with Russia to fully implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, continue to deepen political mutual trust and strategic coordination, and ensure that bilateral relations move forward in the direction set by the two heads of state, so as to foster a more secure and stable external environment for China's and Russia's development and revitalization, and make greater contributions to safeguarding the common interests of the two countries and the security and stability of the world.

Patrushev said that the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era enjoys solid public support in both countries. He wishes the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) a complete success. The Russian side takes a firm stand on the one-China principle, and firmly supports the measures taken by the Chinese government to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity on the Taiwan question. Russia always regards developing relations with China as its diplomatic priority, and stands ready to maintain close strategic communication with China, deepen practical cooperation in various fields and further strengthen coordination and cooperation in international organizations.

The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on maintaining global strategic stability, the situations in the Asia-Pacific region, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and other international and regional issues of common concern.

Deputy Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the CPC and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong and other officials were present.
