On the evening of November 4, 2022, Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz jointly met with representatives of Chinese and German economic communities, listened to their suggestions for further deepening China-Germany cooperation in economy and trade, and had talks with them at the Great Hall of the People. Nearly 30 entrepreneurs from China and Germany attended the event.

Li Keqiang said that China and Germany are both major economies of the world and among each other's important cooperative partners. Enterprises of the two countries have maintained long-term cooperative relations, and the economic and trade ties between both sides have long been integrated. They are inseparable and impossible to be "decoupled". We owe the development of economic and trade relations to enterprises’ cooperation in production and operation. The current world economy is faced with a complex landscape, and economic and trade exchanges between market entities are of great significance for sustaining the two countries' respective economic development. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the German side to make the "pie" of cooperation bigger, create a favorable environment for the development of enterprises, and support enterprises of both countries in carrying out cooperation and growing together in cooperation. This will benefit both countries, and will also contribute to the stable and unfettered global industrial and supply chains.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China is a developing country with a population of over  1.4 billion and a big market. The Chinese economy has been deeply integrated into the world, and the market potential is continuously emerging. We will remain steadfast in expanding opening up, adhere to free and fair trade, follow market principles and commercial rules, intensify reforms to streamline government administration, delegate power, improve regulation, and upgrade services, continuously foster a market-oriented, world-class business environment governed by a sound legal framework, and treat each and every one of Chinese and foreign enterprises and enterprises of all types of ownership as equals. Li Keqiang encouraged German enterprises to actively invest and operate in China, continue to explore the Chinese market and deepen cooperation with Chinese enterprises, and always appropriately manage  problems and challenges in cooperation in the spirit of mutual benefit.

Li Keqiang briefed on the Chinese economy. He said that since the beginning of this year, affected by unexpected factors, the Chinese economy has come under new downward pressures, with a notable decline early in the second quarter. We took decisive action and prompt control to stabilize the operations of market entities, maintain job security and stable prices, and released and implemented a package of stabilizing policies and successive measures. Thanks to all these arduous efforts, the Chinese economy reversed the downward trend in time, and is currently showing an upward momentum. China has more than 160 million market entities, which in the face of many challenges, have still shown strong resilience and vitality, and this is the source of confidence and assurance that the Chinese economy maintains stable and sound development. It is believed that the Chinese economy will develop in a better way.

Scholz said that globalization brings wealth and prosperity, Germany-China cooperation enjoys fruitful outcomes. Candid communication and exchanges are quite necessary and beneficial for the two sides, and the bilateral partnership should be well maintained. The German side stands ready to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with the Chinese side on an equal footing and provide a fair market environment for entrepreneurs of both countries to operate in each other's country, to benefit both sides.

Wang Yi and He Lifeng were present at the event.
