2014/11/14

In the morning of November 14 local time, Premier Li Keqiang held talks with President U Thein Sein of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw. Both sides had in-depth exchanges of views on further promoting China-Myanmar relationship and deepening bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation and reached broad consensus.

Li Keqiang conveyed the sincere greetings from President Xi Jinping to President U Thein Sein. Li Keqiang expressed that China and Myanmar, with their peoples drinking the water of the same river, enjoy profound "Paukphaw" friendship. Since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship 64 years ago, the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Myanmar, who have respected each other and treated each other as equals, have scored substantial progress on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. China firmly supports Myanmar in adhering to a development path that conforms to its national conditions and in realizing long-lasting stability and development. China is willing to join efforts with Myanmar to take the overall picture of China-Myanmar friendship and the fundamental interests of both peoples as priority, stick to mutual trust and mutual assistance for win-win results, and inherit the past and usher into the future, so as to elevate the level of China-Myanmar strategic cooperation in a comprehensive manner, so that the two countries could be good neighbors, good friends and good partners forever.

Li Keqiang pointed out that both sides should maintain high-level exchanges, give full play to the role of consultative and communication mechanisms between the governments and political parties of the two countries, enhance strategic communication and deepen political mutual trust. Cooperation on large-scale projects should be conducted between the two sides. The Chinese government supports its enterprises to participate in Myanmar's infrastructure construction to make sure that more local people could benefit from bilateral cooperation. Both sides should also bring the role of China-Myanmar electricity cooperation committee and committee on agricultural cooperation into full play, deepen bilateral cooperation in energy and agriculture, promote the bilateral local currency clearing, continue to offer support in establishing more financial institutions in each other's country, and expand cooperation in high-tech, disaster relief, addressing climate change and other fields. People-to-people and cultural exchanges in culture, education, health-care, youth, media, religion and other fields should also be intensified, so as to consolidate the public opinion foundation of China-Myanmar friendship. China stands ready to work with Myanmar to advance the construction of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, so as to promote the connectivity and social and economic development in Myanmar and the region.

U Thein Sein, on behalf of the government and people of Myanmar, extended warm welcome to Premier Li Keqiang for his official visit to Myanmar after his attendance of a series of leaders' meetings on East Asia cooperation. He said that the Myanmar-China friendship was forged personally by the older generations of the leaders of both countries and should be carried forward from generation to generation. The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence advocated by Myanmar, China and India together now witnesses an increasingly expanded international influence. Myanmar is grateful to China for its support and help. Premier Li Keqiang's visit to Myanmar yielded fruitful results despite of its short duration and will vigorously promote the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries and the friendship between the two peoples. Myanmar is willing to take this visit as an opportunity to further expand exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side, support and take an active part in the construction of Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, the "One Belt One Road" and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, conduct cooperation on large-scale project, and boost people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to push forward the bilateral relations for new development.

After the talks, the leaders of the two countries jointly witnessed the signing of documents on bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, agriculture, finance, energy and other fields.

Prior to the talks, U Thein Sein held a grand welcoming ceremony for Li Keqiang at the square in front of the Presidential Palace of Myanmar.
