Xi Jinping Meets with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj of India

On February 2, 2015, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj of India.

Xi Jinping asked Sushma Swaraj to convey his sincere greetings and best wishes to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Xi Jinping pointed out that he was warmly and friendly received by the Indian government and people during the visit to India last September, which remains refresh in his memory. The visit marked that China-India relations entered a new development stage in which the consensus reached by leaders of both countries continues to be implemented and bilateral friendly exchanges and cooperation enjoy a sound momentum.

Xi Jinping stressed that the stable development of bilateral relations thanks largely to the accumulated political mutual trust as well as important consensus on some major issues between leaders of the two countries. Therefore, the leaders of both countries should continue maintaining communication and exchanges and together set the right course for the development of bilateral relations. Xi welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit China at an early date. He said that both countries should take the opportunity of the century, connect their development strategies, and continuously advance strategic cooperation in such fields as industrial parks and railways and complete them as early as possible, so as to benefit the 2.5 billion people in the two countries and push forward global economy. Both sides should patiently manage and control the existing divergences between the two countries thus to prevent them from affecting the big picture of bilateral relations, and properly and gradually solve relevant issues with a sincere will. China will, together with India, enhance communication and coordination on major international and regional issues such as global governance, push the international order along a more just and reasonable direction, and safeguard the interests of emerging markets as well as developing countries.

Sushma Swaraj conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes from President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Xi Jinping. She said that the visit paid by President Xi Jinping last year is very important to India and its people, elevating bilateral relations to a new level, and the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries are now under implementation. India expects China to continue expanding its investment in India in order to ease the imbalance in bilateral trade. It is hoped that both sides could intensify dialogue and properly handle the boundary issues. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is looking forward to visiting China, and it is hoped that both sides could prepare for this at an early date. The visit is believed to yield new and important outcome.
