China and Hungary Sign Cooperation Document on Belt and Road

2015/06/07

On June 6 local time, when paying an official visit to Hungary, Foreign Minister Wang Yi signed in Budapest the Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting the Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Hungary with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto of Hungary. This is the first such cooperation document signed between China and an European country.

After the signing ceremony, Wang Yi said that in the era of globalization, the Eurasian continent is an integral whole. China is now speeding up its opening-up to the west, while Hungary is now pursuing the "opening to the East" policy, therefore, the Belt and Road will more closely link China and Hungary. Hungary is the first European country to sign such a cooperation document with China, playing a leading and pioneering role in joint construction of the Belt and Road. We welcome more European countries to "look east", enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with China and other Asian countries and participate in constructing the Belt and Road in different ways. The history will prove that this is a wise and right strategic choice.

Peter Szijjarto expressed that Hungary will join efforts with China to actively advance the construction of the Belt and Road and make greater progress in Hungary-China practical cooperation as well as the cooperation between the Central and Eastern European countries and China.
