Wang Yi: If you come with sincerity, we welcome you

2016/04/30

On April 30, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with visiting Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

At the outset of the talks, Wang Yi expressed sympathy with Japan's Kumamoto Prefecture for the recent strong earthquake.

Wang Yi said that this is your first visit to China since assuming the post of Japanese Foreign Minister over three years ago. China-Japan relationship has suffered various setbacks over these years, falling to a low ebb. The Japanese side knows clear the reason behind that. We have seen the Japanese side repeatedly expressing its hope of improving the bilateral relationship over recent period of time. You have also shown your willingness to take the first step. If you come with sincerity, we welcome you. As the Chinese saying goes, we should make a judgment based on not only what people say but also what they do. I am ready to listen to your opinion about how to improve China-Japan relations, and I am also going to see whether the Japanese side will match its words with deeds.
