Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov of Kazakhstan

2016/04/28

On April 28, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov of Kazakhstan, who was in China to attend the 5th Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Wang Yi expressed that at present, China-Kazakhstan relations enjoy a sound momentum of development. The two countries have enjoyed continuously deepened political mutual trust, realized the docking of development strategies and witnessed booming cooperation in various fields. Bilateral cooperation in co-building the Silk Road Economic Belt and production capacity has yielded tangible fruits and become new growth points of practical cooperation between the two countries. China and Kazakhstan keep close coordination and cooperation within the multilateral frameworks including the UN, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the CICA, safeguarding the common interests of both sides. China stands ready to, together with Kazakhstan, continue to well implement the cooperation consensus reached by the two heads of state, and promote the level of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. Kazakhstan is a founding member of the CICA, and China, as the rotating presidency at present, is willing to strengthen communication with Kazakhstan, and jointly discuss the future direction of the CICA, so as to build the CICA into a model of regional security dialogue and cooperation.

Erlan Idrissov expressed that propositions on the development of the CICA suggested by President Xi Jinping during the opening ceremony of the Meeting of CICA Ministers of Foreign Affairs are far-sighted. Kazakhstan will continue to support China to do a good job as rotating presidency. Regarding China as one of the top priorities in its external relations, Kazakhstan is willing to, together with China, maintain high-level exchanges, increase mutual political support, deeply participate in the construction of the Belt and Road, and strengthen cooperation in international and regional affairs, so as to jointly promote the development, stability and security of the region and the world at large.

Wang Yi introduced China's stance on the South China Sea issue to Erlan Idrissov. Erlan Idrissov said Kazakhstan fully understands and respects China's stance, and upholds that the relevant disputes should be resolved through bilateral dialogues and negotiations by regional parties directly concerned.
