Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour of Sudan

On May 12, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour of Sudan after attending the 7th ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF).

Ibrahim Ghandour expressed that Sudan appreciates China's efforts and contributions to the success of the forum, believing the forum will promote Arab-China relations to a new height. Sudan supports China's stance on the South China Sea issue, and supports China's efforts in safeguarding its own territorial sovereignty and legitimate rights and interests. Ibrahim Ghandour introduced the domestic situation and the development of peace process in Sudan, and expressed gratitude to China's support for Sudan's peace process for a long time and assistance in its domestic economic construction. Sudan hopes to continue to get support from its Chinese friend.

Wang Yi expressed that Sudan is a trustworthy and good friend of China, and the mutual support has withstood the test of times. President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan came to China to attend the commemoration marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War on September 3, 2015 and held successful meeting with President Xi Jinping. Both sides signed a joint statement on establishing China-Sudan strategic partnership, promoting bilateral relations to a new level. China will continue to firmly support Sudan's legitimate interests and reasonable concerns on the Darfur and other issues, and support Chinese enterprises to carry out economic cooperation in Sudan. It is hoped that Sudan could take full advantage of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the CASCF to expand and strengthen cooperation with China.
