Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc of Vietnam Meets with Wang Yi

On March 31, 2018 local time, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc of Vietnam met in Hanoi with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was paying an official visit to Vietnam.

Wang Yi conveyed greetings from Premier Li Keqiang to Nguyen Xuan Phuc and noted that last year was a fruitful year for China-Vietnam relations. General Secretary Xi Jinping chose Vietnam as the first country to visit after the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which fully demonstrates the important position of China-Vietnam relations in China's overall diplomacy. General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong have reached important political consensus at the highest level, offering the fundamental guarantee for the relations between the two parties and two countries to develop in a right direction. Both countries have been committed to furthering reform and opening up, and the benefits released respectively from the two sides' reform will become strong driving forces for each other to realize high-quality development. The two sides should well grasp the rare historical opportunities, make greater efforts to strengthen the docking of development strategies, properly handle issues emerging in the process of the cooperation and implement the results achieved in General Secretary Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam so as to promote new progress and open up new prospects for China-Vietnam relations.

Wang Yi congratulated Vietnam on successfully hosting the 6th Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Summit and expressed that China will continue actively participating in this process. It is hoped that the mechanism and the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) would give play to their respective advantages and facilitate each other, boost regional development, and create a community of shared future for sub-regional countries, so as to make contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc extended his warm congratulations on the successful convening of China's Two Sessions, and expressed that Vietnam attaches great importance to China, and takes Vietnam-China relations as a priority in its diplomatic policy. He sincerely hoped that the two sides will continue strengthening their traditional friendship and constantly expand practical cooperation. The Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese government are glad to see China growing stronger and making important contributions to regional and world peace, stability and prosperity. Vietnam supports China's "Belt and Road" initiative, and stands ready to actively promote the alignment of "Two Corridors and One Circle" and "Belt and Road" and advance bilateral cooperation in economy and trade, overland infrastructure and other fields. He thanked China for supporting Vietnam in successfully hosting the GMS meeting and the important role China has played in the process of the GMS and expressed the willingness to play an active role in promoting the cooperative and coordinated development of the GMS and the LMC.

The two sides also exchanged views on maritime issues and agreed that the two sides should jointly safeguard maritime peace and stability, so as to create a favorable environment and sound conditions for all-round cooperation.
