2018/04/01

On April 1, 2018 local time, President Tran Dai Quang of Vietnam met in Hanoi with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was paying an official visit to Vietnam.

Wang Yi conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping to Tran Dai Quang and introduced the important results yielded at the Two Sessions of China. Wang Yi said that General Secretary Xi Jinping chose Vietnam as the destination of his first visit after the successful convening of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which fully reflects the importance China attaches to China-Vietnam relations and Vietnam’s special and vital position in China’s overall diplomacy. General Secretary Xi Jinping had in-depth strategic communication with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Mr. President on deepening the relations between the two parties and countries, reaching important political consensus. Under the correct guidance of the top level leaders of both parties and countries, China-Vietnam cooperation in all fields has presented a rapid development momentum. Last year, the bilateral trade volume reached 100 billion US dollars, and personnel exchanges exceeded 10 million person times, not only demonstrating the sound momentum of the current China-Vietnam relations, but also showing the vast prospects of bilateral relations in the future. The two countries should seize the opportunity, well inherit and carry forward bilateral traditional friendship and implement the strategic consensus reached by the highest leaders of both parties and countries in a down-to-earth manner, and earnestly grasp the right direction of bilateral relations, in a bid to open up new prospects for China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. China is willing to continuously intensify high-level exchanges, strengthen the docking of development strategies, and push forward practical cooperation in all fields with Vietnam. And at the same time, both countries should adopt a prudent approach to handle the maritime issues, exploit new ways of joint development and provide favorable conditions for all-round cooperation between the two countries.

Tran Dai Quang asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings to President Xi Jinping and once again congratulated China on the successful convening of China’s Two Sessions. He said that China’s new government has sent State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi to visit Vietnam and attend the Greater Mekong Sub-regional (GMS) Summit shortly after its establishment, which embodies the great importance China attaches to Vietnam-China relations. At present, the relations between the two parties and two countries have maintained positive development. General Secretary and President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to Vietnam last year, which vigorously promoted political mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation between both countries, making Vietnam-China relations a highlight against the backdrop of the current volatile and complex international landscape. Vietnam attaches great importance to the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China and is willing to work with various departments of China to earnestly implement the consensus reached by the top level leaders of the two parties, strengthen exchanges of experience in state governance and administration between the two parties, enhance the docking of the “Two Corridors and One Circle” with the “Belt and Road”, and promote cooperation in economy, trade and at local levels, so as to make Vietnam-China traditional friendship bloom and yield more fruits.
