On April 2, 2018 local time, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong met in Hanoi with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was on an official visit to Vietnam.

Nguyen Phu Trong asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings to General Secretary Xi Jinping, and congratulated China on the successful convening of the Two Sessions which have achieved important results. Nguyen Phu Trong expressed that Vietnam welcomes a growing and stronger China which will make important contributions to peace and stability in the region and the world at large. Speaking highly of General Secretary Xi Jinping choosing Vietnam as the first country to visit shortly after the successful convening of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Nguyen Phu Trong expressed that Vietnam and China are friendly neighboring countries. Both as socialist countries, Vietnam and China have every reason to work in unity and help each other. At present, Vietnam-China relations have maintained a positive momentum of development. Vietnam supports the "Belt and Road" initiative of China and is willing to speed up the integration of the "Belt and Road" and the "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle", so as to promote bilateral practical cooperation. Both sides should, on the basis of the comradely and brotherly spirit, properly handle maritime issues through friendly consultation. As transitional measures, both countries can discuss and carry out joint exploitation, and jointly safeguard maritime peace and stability.

Wang Yi conveyed the warm greetings from General Secretary Xi Jinping to Nguyen Phu Trong, and noted that last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping successfully paid a historic visit to Vietnam after the 19th CPC National Congress. The important strategic consensus reached by the top leaders of both parties and both countries is being translated into strong impetus that promotes China-Vietnam relations for positive development. Shortly after its establishment, the new Chinese government has sent me to visit Vietnam, aiming to show that the new Chinese government will continue placing China-Vietnam relations at an important position in China's overall diplomacy. China is willing to, together with Vietnam, further implement the important results achieved from General Secretary Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam, and consolidate and develop the friendly cooperation situation guided by the high-level leaders of both parties and both countries, and translate it into practical actions of all walks of life of the two countries to strengthen comprehensive strategic cooperation. Both countries should seize the opportunity, speed up the advancement of the integration between the "Belt and Road" and the "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle", constantly open up new fields for cooperation, and strive to realize the double upgrade of scale and quality for practical cooperation between the two countries. China is willing to make joint efforts with Vietnam to properly handle differences, explore joint exploitation, constantly improve and strengthen the public opinion foundation of bilateral relations, and make sure that China-Vietnam relations are always developing in the right direction.
