Wang Yi: China and Tajikistan Should Move the "Four Good" Relationship Toward a Community with a Shared Future

2019/05/21

On May 20, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan in Dushanbe and later briefed reporters on the consensus reached by both sides during his visit to Tajikistan.

Wang Yi said that China and Tajikistan enjoy the comprehensive strategic partnership and have formed a "four good" relationship, namely, good neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, good friends with sincerity and mutual trust, good partners of win-win cooperation and good brothers who support each other. The "four good" relationship is first attributed to the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan. In the meantime, the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative has also injected strong impetus into our relations.

Wang Yi said that in the next stage, both sides should fully implement consensus reached by two heads of state, consolidate the political mutual trust, continue to support each other and defend the common interests. Both sides will strengthen the integration of development strategies while taking the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative as the main line. We are willing to help Tajikistan advance the industrialization, be committed to building a China-Tajikistan community of shared development, jointly combat the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism and transnational organized crime and build a community of shared security for the two countries, and thus move toward the goal of building a community with a shared future.

Wang Yi said that both sides also reached an agreement on promoting the development of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Against the backdrop of rampant unilateralism and rising protectionism, both sides believed that the "Shanghai Spirit", which promotes mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and consultation, is of great significance in the current situation. Both sides will support the SCO to play a more active role in maintaining regional security and stability as well as promoting common development and prosperity.

Both sides believed that it is the right time to follow the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security which the CICA advocates when facing the return of the Cold War mentality and the resurging of "clash of civilizations". The Chinese side firmly supports the Tajikistan as the CICA presidency in successfully holding the summit in Dushanbe this June and promoting the in-depth development of the CICA cooperation, so as to make the new concept of security deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples.
