Myanmar President U Win Myint Meets with Wang Yi

President of Myanmar U Win Myint met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi at Naypyidaw on December 7.

Wang Yi said, China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers. Thousands of years of communication make us form the "Pauk-Phaw" friendship in which we depend on each other. The changes in the international situation make us a community of shared future sharing weal and woe. The two countries advocate and practice the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and set up an example of equal treatment and mutually beneficial cooperation among different countries. Wang Yi said, China will firmly support Myanmar in pursuing a path of development in line with its own national conditions, firmly support Myanmar in safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests and national dignity in the international arena, and firmly support Myanmar in safeguarding the overall situation of development and stability. We are also grateful to Myanmar for its firm support to China on issues of core interest and important concern in relation to China.

Wang Yi said, next year China and Myanmar will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which is an important year. China is willing to sum up the successful experience of bilateral cooperation with Myanmar, jointly plan its future development prospects, carry out a series of celebration activities, especially strengthen high-level exchanges between the two countries, and push the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Myanmar to a new level and enter a new era.

U Win Myint said, the friendship between Myanmar and China has a long history. Myanmar thanked China for its strong support in safeguarding Myanmar's national sovereignty and dignity, and promoting economic and social development. It is hoped that the two sides will take the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity to consolidate and deepen political mutual trust, speed up the joint building of "Belt and Road Initiative," comprehensively promote the construction of economic corridor, expand cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, education, and health. We should strengthen coordination and cooperation on regional and international issues, and open up new prospects for Myanmar-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Myanmar hopes that China will continue to support the peace and reconciliation process under way in Myanmar.
