Secretary-general Xu Jinghu holds Reception

In the evening of October 17, 2004, Mrs. Xu Jinghu, Secretary-general of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and Director-general of the African Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry held a welcome reception in honour of delegates from 27 African countries, who were here to attend the China-Africa Seminar on Human Rights.

    

Mrs. Xu delivered a welcome speech at the reception in which she sent a congratulation message to the seminar on behalf of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of FOCAC. Xu stated that the seminar is a specific follow-up action taken by China and Africa to implement the Addis Ababa Action Plan of FOCAC. She said, China and African countries had in recent years made unremitting efforts to promote and protect human rights and had gained active achievements and experiences; it is our sincere hope that China and Africa will further enhance mutual understanding, expand consensus, promote exchanges and cooperation in the field of human rights so as to safeguard the common interests of China and Africa.

          

Xu reiterated that it is the fundamental foreign policy of the China to strengthen its solidarity and cooperation with developing countries including Africa. China will continue to work with African countries to strengthen their cooperation in political, economic and cultural fields and in international arena, make good use of FOCAC so as to push the friendly cooperative relations between China and Africa to obtain more achievements.

Delegates from 27 African countries, diplomats from African missions in Beijing and senior official from Chinese Ministries attended the reception.
