Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Delivers a Report on the Current International Situation at NDRC

On July 27, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi was invited to deliver a special report on the current international situation and China's diplomatic work at the Development and Reform Seminar of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). The report meeting was moderated by NDRC Director Zhang Ping.

Foreign Minister Yang firstly presented his views on the new changes in international economic, political, and security situation. He focused his introduction on China's diplomatic work in the first half of the year, including China-U.S. relations, U.S.-Russia relations, the situation in West Asia and North Africa and the South China Sea issue. Foreign Minister Yang, based upon the requirements for the development of diplomatic services, shared his views on the development trend of international situation in the "12th Five-Year Plan' period and in the coming 10 coming years. He also talked about some ideas on how the diplomatic work could better serve the "12th Five-Year Plan".

There were about 200 people attending the report meeting including the principal leaders of the NDRC and leaders of the development and reform commissions at the provincial, municipal and autonomous-region levels.
