On April 20, 2005, Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived at Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, for a two-day state visit to this Southeast Asian nation with the goal to promote the further development of the friendly and cooperative relations of good neighbors between China and Brunei.

Bandar Seri Begawan is luxuriantly green with trees and green grass. At about 14:30 local time, the special plane taken by Hu Jintao landed in Brunei International Airport. President Hu Jintao and his wife Liu Yongqing received welcome from Bruneian Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah and other officials at the airport.

Hu Jintao delivered a written speech at the airport. He indicated that China and Brunei are friendly neighbors facing each other across the sea. The traditional friendship between the people of both countries is everlasting. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations with Brunei 14 years ago, China-Brunei relations have enjoyed comprehensive development. The mutual trust in politics has been continually strengthened and the cooperation in various fields has achieved remarkable results. The exchange of personnel is getting increasingly closer and the two countries have maintained sound collaboration and coordination in international and regional affairs. The development of China-Brunei has not only brought substantial benefits to the people of both countries, but also contributed to the peace and development of this region.

Hu Jintao expressed that China pursues the diplomatic guideline of "being a good neighbor and partner", and attaches importance to developing the relations with Brunei. He believed that his visit would further strengthen mutual understanding and trust and boost the further development of friendly and cooperative relations of good neighbors between the two countries in a comprehensive manner.

The Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Yang Yanyi and the staffs of the embassy also welcomed President Hu Jintao at the airport.

Wang Gang, Member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee and other accompanying staffs also arrived at the airport by the same plane. Brunei is the first stop of his three- Nation tour to Southeast Asia. Following the visit to Brunei, Hu Jintao will visit Indonesia and the Philippines. During his stay in Indonesia, Hu Jintao will attend the Asia-Africa Summit and the commemoration event of the 50th anniversary of Bandung Conference.
