On April 19, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada.

Wang Yi noted that at present, China-Canada relations maintain a sound development momentum, and bilateral cooperation in various fields has been deepened constantly. China is comprehensively deepening reform, expanding opening up, and speeding up the transformation and upgrade of economic structures, which will provide more opportunities for bilateral cooperation. Both sides should tap potential and deepen practical cooperation, so as to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Speaking positively of current Canada-China relations, Stephen Harper expressed that he will try his best to promote bilateral practical cooperation. Both sides also exchanged views on free trade, global political and security situation and other topics.
