Wang Yi Meets with Newly-appointed Canadian Ambassador to China John McCallum

On June 14, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the newly-appointed Canadian Ambassador to China John McCallum at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Wang Yi welcomed Ambassador John McCallum to assume his new post in China. Speaking highly of China-Canada relations, Wang Yi expressed that both countries are committed to advancing multilateralism, safeguarding world peace and stability and facilitating global free trade. China is willing to, together with Canada, maintain high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation in economy, trade, law enforcement and other fields, and properly handle differences and sensitive issues, in a bid to push bilateral strategic partnership for a sustained and stable development.

John McCallum expressed that he felt honored to take up the post of Canadian Ambassador to China on the occasion of the rapid development of bilateral relations. At present, Canada and China enjoy important common interests and broad cooperation space in facilitating trade liberalization, tackling climate change, protecting the environment and other aspects. He is willing to make positive efforts to push forward bilateral relations during his tenure.
