Premier Wen Jiabao Meets with President of Republic of Suriname

On February 25 2004, Premier Wen Jiabao met in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai with President of the Republic of Suriname Runaldo Ronald Venetiaan.

Premier Wen made positive remarks on President Venetiaan's visit to China, saying that the visit by the president is a great event in bilateral relations of the two countries and has achieved significant results. Premier Wen and President Venetiaan fully affirmed the good momentum of the development of bilateral relations and expressed their confidence over further consolidation of China-Suriname relations. Premier Wen pointed out that in recent years senior officials of the two countries have been exchanging visits frequently and that bilateral trade and cooperation in such areas as infrastructure construction and energy development has been developing very rapidly. Suriname is a good partner of China in the Caribbean region while potentials are still there for further cooperation between the two economies. He believed that with concerted efforts, China and Suriname would definitely bring their relations to a new high.

President Venetiaan said the brotherly relations of friendship between Suriname and China are full of dynamics, with political dialogue increasingly enhanced, economic and trade cooperation developing smoothly and cooperation in the field of infrastructure construction making fruitful achievements in particular. The government of Suriname strongly supports its domestic enterprises to establish broader partnerships with their Chinese counterparts. President Venetiaan said he was convinced that the friendly cooperation between Suriname and China based on mutual respect and mutual benefit will be constantly consolidated and enhanced.
