On January 14, 2024 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS) Ahmed Aboul Gheit in Cairo.

Wang Yi said, the first China-Arab States Summit was successfully held and President Xi Jinping reached important common understandings with the leaders of Arab states, ushering China-Arab relations into the best in history. Over the past year and more, the two sides have made solid progress in implementing the outcomes of the China-Arab States Summit. Belt and Road cooperation has covered all 22 countries of the LAS. The first China-Arab Youth Development Forum and the first China-Arab exchanges on human rights have been successfully held. The LAS has become the first regional organization to sign and implement the Global Civilization Initiative with China. China is willing to work with the Arab side to push for more progress in practical cooperation between China and Arab states.

Wang Yi said that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum. Over the past two decades, the Forum has made important contributions to the development of China-Arab relations and has become a "golden brand" of China-Arab collective cooperation. The 10th Ministerial Conference of the Forum is scheduled to be held in China within this year. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the Arab side, and prepare for and ensure the success of the conference, so as to open up new prospects and inject new impetus into China-Arab relations.

Gheit said that the first China-Arab States Summit is of great significance and has received positive responses. The Arab side will continue to implement the outcomes of the Summit and the important consensus of the leaders, and take the new Ministerial Conference as an opportunity to deepen cooperation in various fields. The LAS firmly supports the one-China principle and "One Country, Two Systems", opposes "double standards" on human rights and Xinjiang-related issues, and opposes interference in China's internal affairs. The LAS highly appreciates China's efforts to uphold justice on the Palestinian question and make important contributions to a ceasefire, cessation of violence, deescalation of the situation and protection of civilians. The LAS believes that China will continue to play an indispensable role.

Wang Yi said that China and Arab states are true friends and good partners. China appreciates the staunch support of the LAS on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns, and China will continue to support Arab states in seeking strength through unity and upholding strategic independence. As the world enters a new period of turbulence and change, the trend of developing countries to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, the trend of accelerating development and revitalization, and the determination of developing countries to hold their future and destiny in their own hands cannot be stopped. China supports the LAS in playing a greater role in promoting regional and world peace and stability, and stands ready to work with the Arab side to pursue concrete and solid progress in building a China-Arab community with a shared future and jointly make new contributions to the development and progress of mankind.

After the talks, the two sides signed a cooperation document on the establishment of a China-Arab think tank alliance and issued a joint statement on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
