2024-01-15 23:55

On January 15, 2024 local time, the inauguration ceremony of the International Diplomatic Academy of Tunis was held. President Kais Saied personally unveiled the Diplomatic Academy. Visiting Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the ceremony together with Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar and made remarks.

Wang Yi said, it is a pleasure to visit Tunisia again after eight years. Eight years ago, China and Tunisia reached a consensus on the China-aided building of the International Diplomatic Academy of Tunis. Eight years later, with the joint efforts of both sides, the academy has turned from a blueprint into reality, becoming the only diplomatic academy assisted by China in an Arab country. The academy demonstrates the high level and high quality of China-Tunisia relations and will also become a new symbol and platform for China-Tunisia friendship, continuing and carrying forward the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Wang Yi said that this visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Tunisia. Sixty years ago, when China and Tunisia had not yet established diplomatic relations, Premier Zhou Enlai visited Tunisia upon invitation. On the second day of his visit, the two countries officially announced the establishment of diplomatic relations, which became a good story in the history of international exchanges. Over the past 60 years, China-Tunisia relations have achieved sound and stable development. The two sides have firmly supported each other in safeguarding independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and firmly supported each other's choice of development path, interpreting the "great friendship" between the two countries with concrete actions. Over the past 60 years, China and Tunisia have achieved fruitful results in practical cooperation, successfully implementing a large number of high-quality projects that benefit people's livelihoods. Over the past 60 years, the two sides have maintained close communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, and worked together to safeguard common interests and international fairness and justice.

Wang Yi emphasized that the international situation is characterized by transformation and turbulence, and changes unseen in a century are accelerating. What kind of world do we need? What kind of future should humanity open up? These are the questions of the times, the people, and history. President Xi Jinping's proposal to jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind has made clear the direction of joint efforts by all countries and become a noble goal pursued by China's diplomacy. As countries share integrated interests and common destinies, they should transcend differences in social systems, development stages, ethnicity and religions, and work together to build the global village and protect the only planet inhabited by human beings. To that end, we should promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and insist that all countries, big or small, strong or weak, rich or poor, can play their due roles and enjoy the right to development and revitalization.

Nabil Ammar said that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tunisia and China, and cooperation in various fields between the two countries has been progressing smoothly. Both Tunisia and China have a long history and splendid civilization, and developing friendship between Tunisia and China is the common political will of both sides and serves the common interests of the two countries and two peoples. The International Diplomatic Academy of Tunis is the crystallization of the deep friendship between Tunisia and China and a substantial result yielded under the Belt and Road cooperation. He expressed gratitude for China's selfless assistance and support. The Tunisian side will run the academy well, and build the academy into an important platform for exchanging experience and enhancing understanding, as well as a bridge connecting the two countries and the world, so as to contribute to the development and progress of human society.
