On May 21, 2023, Ambassador Zhang Jianwei met with Dr. Haila Hamad Al-Makimi,  member of the Consultative Commission of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and political science professor at Kuwait University.

Ambassador Zhang said that the first China-GCC Summit successfully held in December last year provides a strong impetus to forging and strengthening the China-GCC strategic partnership. With a long-standing friendship, China and Kuwait have always trusted, respected and supported each other over the past 52 years, since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The two sides have expanded bilateral cooperation into various fields and written together a splendid history of bringing the peoples closer and delivering win-win economic results. He hoped that Prof.Haila would continue to care about China-GCC and China-Kuwait relations and help the people of GCC countries, especially Kuwait, to gain a better understanding of China and its friendship with Kuwait and GCC countries. The Chinese Embassy in Kuwait is glad to provide support and assistance as much as it can, he said.

For her part, Haila noted the long history of friendly exchanges between the Islamic and Chinese civilizations, and said that the people of Kuwait have a strong desire and great passion to understand the long history and splendid culture of China. She would continue to contribute to closer people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between Kuwait and China .
