On March 1, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, upon invitation, attended the reception held by the Bruneian Embassy in China to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Brunei's National Day.

Sun Weidong extended congratulations on the 40th anniversary of Brunei's National Day, saying that the traditional friendship between China and Brunei has a long history. President Xi Jinping met with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in San Francisco of the United States in November last year, providing important strategic guidance for the further development of bilateral relations. The Chinese side stands ready to work together with the Bruneian side to continuously achieve new development in the strategic cooperative partnership between China and Brunei.

Bruneian Ambassador to China Pehin Dato Haji Abdu'r Rahmani bin Dato Haji Basir said that Brunei attaches great importance to developing its relations with China, and is willing to work with China to implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state and achieve greater outcomes of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
