Xi Jinping Arrives in Bishkek for a State Visit to the Republic of Kyrgyzstan and Attendance at the 19th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)

On June 12, 2019 local time, President Xi Jinping arrived in Bishkek by a special plane, starting a state visit to the Republic of Kyrgyzstan and attendance at the 19th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

At around 7:40 p.m. local time, Xi Jinping's special plane arrived at Manas International Airport. When Xi Jinping walked out of the cabin door, he was warmly welcomed by President Sooronbay Jeenbekov of Kyrgyzstan beside the ramp. Local young women presented flowers, bread and honey to Xi Jinping to welcome the distinguished guest. The guard of honor lined up on both sides of red carpet with eye salute.

The two heads of state held warm talks. Xi Jinping thanked Sooronbay Jeenbekov for greeting him in person at the airport and conveyed to the friendly Kyrgyz people sincere greetings and best wishes from the Chinese people. Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Kyrgyzstan are connected by mountains and rivers and the two peoples have been living side by side from generation to generation. The ancient Silk Road linked the two countries together. At present, with continuous deepening of China-Kyrgyzstan comprehensive strategic partnership and fruitful results in the cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, China and Kyrgyzstan have become truly good neighbors, good friends and good partners. During the visit, I will have an in-depth exchange of views with President Sooronbay Jeenbekov on deepening China-Kyrgyzstan comprehensive strategic partnership, jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas, and other international and regional issues of common concern, so as to chart the future course for bilateral relations. It is believed that the visit will consolidate the traditional friendship between China and Kyrgyzstan and lift the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.

Xi Jinping stressed that the Bishkek summit carries great significance for the future development of the SCO. As the rotating presidency of the SCO, Kyrgyzstan has made great efforts to prepare for the summit. It is believed that under the joint efforts from all member states, the summit will be sure to yield fruitful achievements to push the SCO for new development.

Sooronbay Jeenbekov warmly welcomed Xi Jinping, saying that I have long been looking forward to President Xi Jinping's visit. The Kyrgyz side appreciates the Chinese side's strong support for Kyrgyzstan's hosting of the SCO summit. Bordering on China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Kyrgyzstan deeply admires the rapid development in Xinjiang and China at large and deeply admires the accomplishments achieved by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government under President Xi Jinping's leadership.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and other delegation members arrived by the same plane.

H.E. Du Dewen, Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, also greeted President Xi Jinping at the airport.

After concluding the trip in Kyrgyzstan, Xi Jinping will also travel to Tajikistan to attend the 5th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia in Dushanbe and pay a state visit to Tajikistan.
