The NPC Standing Committee Ratified
 the UN Firearms Protocol

On October 24, the 6th Plenary Session of the 14th NPC Standing Committee adopted the decision to ratify the Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, their Parts and Components and Ammunition (Firearms Protocol).


The Firearms Protocol is an important protocol supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and an important legally binding instrument in the field of international conventional arms control. It aims to strengthen control over licit firearms, prevent their diversion into the illegal circuit and promote relevant law enforcement cooperation. The Protocol has 122 Parties up to date.


Ratifying the Firearms Protocol is an important action taken by China to act on the Global Security Initiative, uphold multilateralism and maintain global and regional peace and stability. It also demonstrates China's determination to exercise strict domestic control over firearms and actively participate in global firearms control cooperation. At the same time, it is beneficial for further maintaining national security and social stability, and enhance people's sense of security.
