On October 31, 2023, Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong attended the special event of the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum upon invitation and delivered a keynote speech entitled "Jointly Implementing the Global Security Initiative for Lasting Peace and Security of the World".

Nong Rong said, the Global Security Initiative (GSI) is a major concept and action plan put forward by President Xi Jinping with humanity's future, security and well-being in his mind. Since its inception, the GSI has received support and appreciation from over 100 countries and international and regional organizations, and has been incorporated into numerous bilateral and multilateral documents on exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries and international organizations.

Nong Rong elaborated in an in-depth manner on the essence of the "six commitments" in the GSI and introduced 20 priorities of cooperation identified in the Global Security Initiative Concept Paper. He also pointed out that the GSI has three distinctive features, namely stressing common security, stressing openness and inclusiveness, and stressing practical cooperation. Nong Rong said that over the past year and more, China has taken an active part in promoting multilateral security cooperation, engaged in mediation diplomacy for the political settlement of hotspot issues, been committed to carrying out non-traditional security cooperation with other parties, and promoted to improve international security dialogue and exchange platform mechanism. Encouraging progress has been made in the implementation of the GSI.

Nong Rong said that going forward, China will focus on expanding international consensus on common security, forging an effective paradigm for international security cooperation, exploring peaceful solutions to hotspot issues and promoting the reform of the global security governance system, so as to ensure the steady and long-term progress of the GSI. China welcomes the active participation of all parties in the cooperation on the GSI to make positive contributions to promoting the common security of mankind and the lasting peace of the world.
