On September 21, 2022, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Liu Yuxi met with Nigerian Acting Foreign Minister Zubairu Dada in Abuja. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Cui Jianchun was present at the meeting.

Liu Yuxi asked Dada to convey State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi's sincere greetings to Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama. Liu noted that in recent years, under the personal care and support of President Xi Jinping and President Muhammadu Buhari, China and Nigeria have seen continuous deepening of their political mutual trust, their practical cooperation leading China-Africa cooperation, and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation on major international and regional issues. China is ready to take the all-round effort to implement the outcomes of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation as an opportunity to further advance bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields, help Nigeria defeat COVID-19 as soon as possible and achieve economic recovery and sustainable development, and promote China-Nigeria strategic partnership to scale new heights.

Asking Liu to convey Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama's cordial greetings and best wishes to State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Dada stressed that China and Nigeria have enjoyed deep friendship and fruitful practical cooperation. Nigeria is firmly committed to the one-China principle, and is grateful for China's support in national development and improvement of people's livelihood. Nigeria is ready to work with China to further strengthen exchanges at all levels and in various fields, promote practical cooperation to deliver more fruitful results, enhance coordination and cooperation in international affairs, and better safeguard the common interests of developing countries, so as to bring more benefits to the two countries and peoples.

At Nigeria's invitation, Special Representative Liu Yuxi paid a friendly visit to Nigeria on September 20-23, during which he held talks with Director-General for Regional Affairs of the Nigerian Foreign Ministry and major Chinese-funded institutions in Nigeria, and made field trips to some of the China-Nigeria cooperation projects.
