President of Kenya William Samoei Ruto Meets with Wang Yi

On July 22, 2023 local time, President of Kenya William Samoei Ruto met in Nairobi with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, who is on his visit to Kenya.

President William Samoei Ruto asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. William Samoei Ruto said that over the 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kenya and China, bilateral relations have grown smoothly, and strengthening friendly cooperation with China has been a consensus shared by all sectors in the country. Kenya highly appreciates China for always upholding the attitude of mutual respect in its interaction with Kenya. China has provided valuable assistance for Kenya in its infrastructure construction through their partnership, and the Mombasa-Nairobi railway, as the landmark project, has thoroughly changed the look of Kenya. Kenya is firmly committed to deepening the Kenya-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and is ready to strengthen inter-party exchanges with China, and deepen cooperation in such fields as railway, highway, water conservancy, aviation and renewable energy under the frameworks of Belt and Road cooperation and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), so as to promote connectivity and integration in Africa and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Kenya supports and will actively participate in the Global Development Initiative (GDI) proposed by China.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings to President William Samoei Ruto. Wang Yi said that China-Kenya friendship, rooted in the struggle for national independence and liberation, and boosted by the joint effort to seek development, has profound political foundations and solid public support. Over the 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Kenya have treated each other as equals, supported each other, pursued revitalization through solidarity, and have been good friends with political mutual trust and good partners with economic win-win cooperation. China views and grows China-Kenya relations from a strategic height, and stands ready to work with Kenya to take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as a new starting point to align both countries' strategies for revitalization, focus on development and cooperation, and bring the China-Kenya comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new level in the new era.

Wang Yi said that the two sides should strengthen the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, enhance political mutual trust, and increase exchanges between governments and political parties in various fields. China firmly supports Kenya in safeguarding sovereign independence and national dignity, supports Kenya in combating terrorism, and supports Kenya in following a development path suited to its national conditions. China is ready to work with Kenya to actively advance cooperation in such fields as railway, highway, aviation and information through Belt and Road cooperation and the implementation of the GDI and nine programs of the FOCAC, boost Kenya's economic and social development, and promote integration in Africa. China is ready to work with Kenya to jointly act on multilateralism, defend the central role of the United Nations in international affairs and the common interests of developing countries, advance the implementation of the "Outlook on Peace and Development in the Horn of Africa", and safeguard regional peace and development.

On the same day, Wang Yi also met with Kenyan Minister of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Alfred N. Mutua.
