Wu Yi Attends the Opening Ceremony of China Pavilion Day at Aichi Expo

On May 19, 2005, the opening ceremony of China Pavilion Day officially opened at the Aichi World Expo in Nagoya. Vice Premier Wu Yi of the State Council, Minister Shoichi Nakagawa of economy, trade and industry of Japan and other officials attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

In her address, Wu Yi first of all extended thanks to the related agencies of Japan and International Bureau of Exhibitions for their supports to the construction of China Pavilion. She pointed out that World Expo is a reflection of the development path of human civilizations, a stage for countries to display their social, economic, scientific and technological progresses and development prospects and a grand event for people in different countries to exchange ideas, promote cooperation and advance civilization and development. China has dispatched 10 delegations to participate in the exhibitions of World Expo.

Wu Yi expressed that the theme of China Pavilion in Aichi Expo is "'Nature, City, Harmony -- the Art of Life'", which illustrates the thinking and explorations of the Chinese on the art of life for human survival and development. The Chinese government is committed to building a society where people and nature co-exist harmoniously. China Pavilion has already and will continue to carry out a series of rich and colorful activities to display the integration and development of Chinese traditional culture and modern culture to friends from Japan and other countries so that they can have a comprehensive understanding the wisdom and passion of the Chinese people in creating new their new lives.

Wu Yi noted that the World Expo seized the pulse of the time and is named as Love the Earth Expo with the theme of Nature's Wisdom. The Aichi Expo, from design and construction to organization and operation, has all reflected the love for earth and nature and the wisdom and creativity of the Japanese people. She believed that Shanghai Expo will benefit from the good concept and experience of this World Expo. She also invited friends from every country to come to 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

Shoichi Nakagawa expressed warm welcome to Wu YI for attending the opening ceremony of China Pavilion Day in the Aichi World Expo on behalf of the Japanese government. He expressed that China Pavilion in the World Expo in Aichi was widely recognized and well received, and attracted a large number of visitors, adding colors to the World Expo. The theme of Shanghai World Expo is closely linked with that of Aichi World Expo. The Japanese side will cooperate with China to pass on the baton of World Expo.

Shoichiro Toyoda, Chairman of Aichi World Expo delivered a speech in the opening ceremony, noting that China is the most important country for Japan. As the neighbors connected by waters, both countries have witnessed a long history of friendly exchanges. He hoped that Japan and China, through Aichi and Shanghai World Expos, could draw a beautiful blueprint for the harmonious co-existence and sustainable development of cities and nature.

Present at the opening ceremony were over 2000 foreign and Chinese figures including, Wang Yi, Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Wan Jifei, Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trading (CCPIT), Komura Masahiko, President of the Association of Dietmen League for Japan-China Friendship Ryutaro Hashimoto, former Prime Minister of Japan Wu Jianmin, President of the Bureau on International Exposition (BIE).

When the opening ceremony ended, students from Beijing arts schools, performers from China Disabled People's Arts Troupe and China Acrobatic Troupe presented wonderful performances. The Thousand-handed Goddess performed by China Disabled People's Arts Troupe won warm applauds from the audience for a long time.

After the opening ceremony, Wu Yi visited China Pavilion, Mongolian Pavilion, ROK Pavilion and Toyota Pavilion in a succession.
