From May 9 to 10, 2023, Director-General Liu Jinsong of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry visited Japan to hold work consultation with Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Takehiro Funakoshi. The two sides had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest and concern.

On the margins of the consultation, Director-General Liu Jinsong also paid a courtesy call to Japanese Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Shigeo Yamada, and had discussions and exchanges with Japanese experts and scholars.
