On July 5, 2023, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Chairman of the Japan-China Friendship Center Masashi Ogawa. China's Representative Director Huang Xingyuan was present.

Liu Jinsong said that the Japan-China Friendship Center, as one of the seven Japan-China friendship groups, has made positive contributions to advancing China-Japan friendship and cooperation. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan. The two sides should carry forward the spirit of the Treaty, fulfill the obligations of the Treaty, and ensure the steady and long-term development of China-Japan relations. Liu Jinsong hopes that the Center will take the 45th anniversary as an opportunity to brave difficulties and actively carry out exchanges and cooperation.

Liu Jinsong also expressed concern over the discharge of Fukushima’s nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean, history and Taiwan-related issues, among others. He stressed that the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean bears on the health of the people of all countries, the global marine environment and international public interest. The Japanese government should stop pushing forward with the ocean discharge plan.

Masashi Ogawa said that up to now, the Center has organized nearly 40,000 young people from the two countries for mutual visits, and 16 groups of Japanese people friendly to China for tree-planting tours to China. The dormitory of the Center has received more than 5,000 Chinese students in total. The Center will take the 45th anniversary as an opportunity to restart friendly exchanges including mutual visits between the youths of the two countries.
