On November 29, 2023, Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong met with new Malaysian Ambassador to China Norman Bin Muhamad.

Nong Rong welcomed Norman Bin Muhamad to assume his new post in China and said that President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim reached important common understandings on building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future in March this year, outlining the long-term direction of China-Malaysia relations. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China stands ready to work with Malaysia to follow the guidance of jointly building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future to further deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and constantly elevate China-Malaysia relations to new heights.

Norman Bin Muhamad said that Malaysia-China relations are currently at a new historical height, and the Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries has yielded fruitful results. Malaysia attaches great importance to growing its relations with China, and is ready to work with China to follow through on the common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, ensure the success of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, take the implementation of the visa-free policy as an opportunity to further enhance the friendship between the two peoples, and promote greater development of Malaysia-China relations.
