On September 14, 2017, Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou met with Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed of Maldives.

Kong Xuanyou expressed that China supports the efforts of the Maldivian government in safeguarding national stability and speeding up the economic and social development, and is willing to, together with Maldives, enhance high-level exchanges and take the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" as an opportunity to advance infrastructure cooperation and other major cooperation projects, improve the level of connectivity and promote the orderly growth of Chinese visiting Maldives.

Mohamed Saeed thanked China for its long-term support to Maldives' national construction. The Maldivian side will continue to firmly support and participate in the building of the Belt and Road Initiative, and further deepen cooperation in infrastructure, people's livelihood, tourism and other fields with China.
