Qin Gang Meets with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan Sahir Shamshad Mirza

On June 20, 2023, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang met in Beijing with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan Sahir Shamshad Mirza.

Qin Gang said that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners and "ironclad" friends, and have always shown the deepest sincerity to each other and shared weal and woe. Qin said during his recent visit to Pakistan, he was deeply impressed by the profound and extensive social foundation of the China-Pakistan friendship. The Pakistani army is the pillar of Pakistan as well as a staunch defender and promoter of the China-Pakistan friendship. Qin expressed the hope that the Pakistani military will continue to play its role as the anchor of stability in safeguarding domestic stability while making new and greater contributions to the development of the China-Pakistan strategic partnership and the building of a China-Pakistan community with a shared future together.

Qin Gang stressed that over the past decade, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has achieved fruitful results. China is ready to work with Pakistan to support its economic development, improve people's livelihood and enhance its capacity for sustainable development through the high-quality development of the CPEC. Qin also thanked the Pakistani army for its long-term tremendous efforts to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan. Qin expressed the hope that the Pakistani side will relentlessly show zero tolerance in cracking down on terrorism.

Sahir Shamshad Mirza said that the Pakistan-China friendship is unique and the bilateral relations are deeper than oceans, higher than mountains, sweeter than honey, and stronger than steel. Pakistan warmly supports the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping and will always stand with Chinese brothers. The Pakistani military is firmly committed to carrying forward the Pakistan-China friendship and will continue to make every effort to ensure all bilateral cooperation including the development of the CPEC, and safeguard the Belt and Road cooperation.

The two sides also had an exchange of views on international and regional hotspot issues of mutual concern, and made it clear that under the current circumstances, China and Pakistan have the necessity to strengthen strategic communication and coordination, oppose bloc confrontation, and jointly safeguard common interests of both sides and regional peace and stability.
