Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Takes an Interview with PTV

On August 1, 2023, when Special Representative of President Xi Jinping and Vice Premier of the State Council He Lifeng attended the Decade of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor celebration event in Pakistan upon invitation, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong took an interview with Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) in Islamabad and answered reporters' questions about Vice Premier He Lifeng's visit to Pakistan, the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and China-Pakistan relations.

Sun Weidong said that President Xi Jinping specially sent a congratulatory letter on the Decade of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor celebration event, and appointed Vice Premier He Lifeng to attend the event, showing the special importance of China-Pakistan relations. During his visit to Pakistan, Vice Premier He Lifeng read out President Xi Jinping's congratulatory letter and delivered a speech at the event, and met with Pakistani President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of the Army Staff Syed Asim Munir, respectively. The two sides fully recognized the achievements made in the past decade of CPEC development, had an in-depth exchange of views on the future development of CPEC and China-Pakistan practical cooperation, and reached many important common understandings.

Sun Weidong shared the fruitful results and touching stories of the CPEC development with vivid examples as well as detailed and accurate data, and pointed out that the CPEC has become the earliest cooperation project with the widest range of fields, the most obvious benefits and the entire production factors within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. It is a corridor full of vitality, a corridor that benefits both countries and peoples, a corridor of deep friendship, and a corridor of win-win cooperation. Looking into the future, China is willing to work with Pakistan to build a growth corridor, a livelihood-enhancing corridor, an innovation corridor, a green corridor and an open corridor, strive to create an upgraded version of CPEC, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.
