Wang Yi: China, Japan, and the ROK Should Respect Each Other and Live in Peace

2023-07-03 17:30

On July 3, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the 2023 International Forum for Trilateral Cooperation in Qingdao.

Wang Yi pointed out that the three countries should adhere to mutual respect and live in harmony. In the history of exchanges lasting for thousands of years, China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (ROK) have developed the common values of the "paramount importance of peace" and "seeking harmony without uniformity". Since the advent of modern times, wars of aggression and colonial rule have left deep historical lessons, which have made the people of the region better appreciate the value of peace. Over the past decades, China, Japan, and the ROK have successively achieved continuous development, and successfully advanced their own modernization drive. The key is to uphold the philosophy of peaceful development, respect each other's core interests, and understand each other's choice of path.

Since ancient times, China has had traditional values of good neighborliness, will not tread the old path of expansion and plunder pursued by some major countries in history, and opposes the move of unilateral bullying pursued by any country today. President Xi Jinping has successively put forth the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, which has put forward China's solutions to resolving deficits of global development, peace, trust and governance. China will continue to promote lasting peace in the region and the world through its own peaceful development.
