Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong Meets with Newly-appointed Ambassador of Singapore to China Tan Hai Chuan

On June 7, 2023, Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong met with newly-appointed Ambassador of Singapore to China Tan Hai Chuan.

Nong Rong welcomed Tan Hai Chuan for his assumption of the new post, saying that China-Singapore relations have maintained a sound momentum of development. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong visited China one after another, and State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Li Shangfu paid a successful visit to Singapore. Leaders of the two countries have reached many important common understandings on the development of bilateral relations in the next stage. The two sides should follow through on the common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen strategic communication, deepen high-quality cooperation, and act on the new positioning of the all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership between China and Singapore. China always adheres to the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness and the policy of forging friendships and partnerships with its neighbors. China is ready to work with Singapore and other countries in the region to uphold the ASEAN-centered regional cooperation architecture, make bigger the pie of mutually beneficial cooperation, and contribute to regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Tan Hai Chuan thanked China for its warm and friendly reception to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during their visits to China. The warm high-level exchanges between the two countries fully prove the close friendship between China and Singapore. As the newly-appointed Ambassador to China, he will work closely with the Chinese side to jointly implement the common understandings reached by leaders of the two countries, advance cooperation in various fields, strengthen communication and cooperation on international and regional affairs, and continuously make new progress in China-Singapore relations.
