On July 24, 2023 local time, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali-Akbar Ahmadian in Johannesburg.

Wang Yi said that China always views China-Iran relations from a strategic perspective. President Xi Jinping and President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi reached important common understandings on the development of China-Iran relations at the next stage in February this year. China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Iran to implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, and promote the steady and sustained development of China-Iran relations.

Wang Yi said that China will continue to support Iran in safeguarding its national sovereignty and national dignity, pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and safeguarding its national security. China opposes external interference in Iran's internal affairs. China is ready to strengthen synergy with Iran on the implementation of the China-Iran comprehensive cooperation plan, advance Belt and Road cooperation, and help Iran improve people's livelihood and promote its economic and social development. China and Iran should jointly advocate multilateralism, safeguard the basic norms governing international relations, defend the common interests of developing countries, and maintain regional peace and stability.

Ali-Akbar Ahmadian said that Iran attaches great importance to its comprehensive strategic partnership with China, and expressed his hope that the two sides will strengthen dialogue and communication, tap into the potential for cooperation, and deepen Belt and Road cooperation and cooperation in other fields, so as to deliver more benefits to the two peoples. Iran appreciates China's important role in achieving reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and welcomes China to continue to make positive contribution to regional peace. Iran attaches importance to BRICS cooperation, and stands ready to continue participating in the process through such channels as the "Friends of BRICS".
