Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari of Iraq

On June 16, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari of Iraq.

Wang Yi noted that China and Iraq are good friends and good partners. The bilateral relations have always maintained a sound development momentum. China firmly supports Iraq in its efforts in safeguarding sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and national security and stability. China is willing to, together with Iraq, intensify high-level exchanges, and support each other on issues concerning their core interests and major concerns. China welcomes Iraq to take an active part in the construction of the "Belt and Road" put forward by President Xi Jinping, appreciates the efforts made by the Iraqi side to this end, and hopes that this process can help deepen China-Iraq practical cooperation in such traditional fields as energy and infrastructure construction, and advance mutually beneficial cooperation in production capacity, equipment, and acceleration of industrialization in Iraq. China hopes to see Iraq play its due role in international and regional affairs as an ancient civilization and a major regional country.

Ibrahim al-Jaafari expressed that Iraq attaches great importance to Iraq-China relations and is grateful to China for its long-term support and help. The joint construction of the "Belt and Road" by China and the Arab states serves as important development opportunities of Iraq. Iraq is ready to further deepen cooperation in all fields with the Chinese side and take an active part in the construction of the "Belt and Road", so as to promote for a comprehensive and in-depth development of bilateral relations. Iraq is willing to provide more support and guarantee for Chinese enterprises and personnel in Iraq.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional topics of common interest.
