2015-09-15 10:39

On September 15, 2015, when jointly meeting the press in Beijing with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran after the talks, Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointed out the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue is a good deal, which is beneficial to maintaining the international nuclear non-proliferation system and conducive to peace and stability in the Middle East region. All sides have the responsibility and obligation to fully implement the agreement. The Iranian nuclear issue itself is very complex, and there are many things to attend to in the implementation of the agreement and we have no precedent to follow. Therefore, it can be forecasted that during the decade-long implementation process, there will appear various problems, difficulties and even challenges. The Chinese side calls on all sides to meet each other half way, to make allowance for and understand each other and to adhere to the principles of synchronization, reciprocity and accommodation of the concerns of all parties to avoid catching one and losing another and therefore losing justice and balance.

Wang Yi expressed that China has long actively mediated and played a constructive role in the negotiation process of the Iranian nuclear issue. In future, China will still keep close communication with all other sides to continue to make contributions to the smooth implementation of the agreement. China is one of the two group leaders for the modification project of the Arak heavy-water reactor and has done much preparatory work. The modification of the Arak heavy-water reactor is the common undertaking of the six nations, the European Union and Iran. All sides should play fully their advantages to form joint propulsive force. The Chinese side is willing to shoulder its own responsibility and to play its due role during the process.

Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed that the Iranian side appreciates China's constructive role in the process of reaching the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, and expects and believes that the Chinese side will continue to play an important role in the implementation process of the agreement. Iran is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China regarding the modification project of the Arak heavy-water reactor.
