On January 12, 2020, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to new Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said of Oman over the passing away of Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman. On behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people, and in his own name, Xi Jinping expressed deep condolences over the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, and extended sincere sympathy to Sultan Qaboos bin Said's family and the Omani people.
