From March 30 to 31, 2019, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Gong Xiaosheng visited Palestine. The appointed Prime Minister Mohammad Ishtaye of Palestine met with Special Envoy Gong Xiaosheng. Both sides exchanged views on the Middle East peace process, China-Palestine relations and other topics. Director of the Office of the People's Republic of China to the State of Palestine Guo Wei attended the meeting.

During his stay in Palestine, Special Envoy Gong Xiaosheng also met with Advisor to President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations Nabil Shaath, Fatah Party Commissioner for Relations with Arab Countries and China Abbas Zaki, and Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mazen Shamiyah of Palestine, as well as exchanged views with Director of Palestinian Center for Policy Research and Strategic Studies Hani Al-Masri.
