Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun Attends the Event of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

On May 20, 2021, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun, upon invitation, attended and addressed an event organized by the Palestinian Embassy in China to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Zhai Jun pointed out, the recent escalation of the Palestine-Israel conflict has caused great casualties and property damage, and a humanitarian crisis is heartbreakingly unfolding in Gaza. State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently held the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Open Debate on Palestine-Israel Conflict and put forward an important proposition in this regard. China firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate national rights, and will continue to urge peace talks and work with the international community to promote ceasefire and cessation of violence, launch of humanitarian assistance, resumption of peace talks and implementation of the "two-state solution" for the settlement of the Palestinian question.

The ambassadors of Palestine, Tunisia (on behalf of the Arab countries) and Pakistan (on behalf of the Islamic countries) to China highly appreciated the important preposition put forward by State Councilor Wang Yi and China's efforts to cause the UNSC to speak up on this, adding that China's preposition and efforts have been well received in Palestine, Arab and Islamic countries and have fully reflected China's consistent impartiality and sincere efforts on the Palestinian question. They expect China to further play an active role in promoting the de-escalation of Palestine-Israel tensions and bringing about a just solution to the Palestinian question.
