On October 12, 2023, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun had a phone call with Deputy Minister for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Saud M. Al-Sati on the Palestine-Israel situation.

Zhai Jun said that China is deeply concerned over the current escalation of tensions and violence between Palestine and Israel and saddened by the heavy casualties of civilians caused by the conflict, and opposes and condemns acts that harm civilians. The fundamental way out of the conflict between Palestine and Israel lies in implementing the two-state solution. China is ready to maintain communication and coordination with Saudi Arabia to encourage both parties of the conflict to remain calm and exercise restraint, so as to avoid further escalation of the conflict and more civilian casualties. China will promote synergy among the international community to conduct impartial conciliation and mediation. China will encourage the international community to provide the Palestinian people with humanitarian support, so as to avoid the deterioration of the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, in particular in Gaza.

Saud M. Al-Sati appreciated China's long-standing just position on the Palestinian question, condemned acts that harm civilians, and called on all parties to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation of the situation. The Palestinian question should be resolved in accordance with relevant resolutions of the United Nations and on the basis of the Arab Peace Initiative and the two-state solution. Saudi Arabia is ready to work with China and other friendly countries for the settlement of the Palestinian question.
