Mr. Xie Xiaoyan, Chinese Government Special Envoy for the Syrian Issue, attended the sixth round of the UN-sponsored Intra-Syrian peace talks in Geneva from 19 to 20 May. Mr. Xie met respectively with Mr. Staffan de Mistura, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria, representatives of the Syrian government, different opposition groups, Russia, the US, and Turkey, and attended the press conference after the talks.

Mr. Xie emphasized at the meetings that China always maintains solving the Syrian crisis through political and diplomatic means, supports the UN as the main channel of mediation, welcomes the parallel processes of Geneva and Astana, and plays a constructive role for solving the Syrian issue. What's urgent now is to implement the agreement of De-Escalation Zones, strengthen the ceasefire, and promote the intra-Syrian political dialogue,so as to reach a political solution that accommodates the concerns of all parties. All the parties appreciated the just and objective position and the constructive role of China on the Syrian issue.
