On May 12, 2021, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun held a collective meeting with Envoys to China from Arabic Countries and responsible official of the Arab League Representative Office in China at the latter's request.

The Arab side briefed on the recent Palestine-Israel conflict and the relevant resolutions adopted by the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in this regard, and stressed the conflict provoked by Israel has caused causalities and property damage of the Palestinian side and undermined regional security and stability. The Arab side highly appreciates China's impartial position on the question of Palestine, and hopes that China will continue to play an active role as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and its rotating Presidency for this month, exert its influence to defuse the conflict, and promote a just settlement of the question of Palestine.

Zhai Jun said that China is deeply concerned about the escalating tensions between Palestinians and Israelis, strongly condemns the violence against civilians, and urges all parties especially Israel to exercise restraint, so as to avoid more causalities. As the rotating Presidency of the UNSC for this month, China recently facilitated urgent consultations on the situation in East Jerusalem, called on the UNSC to reiterate its commitment to and firm position on the "two-state solution", and drafted a press statement of the UNSC presidency. Next, China will continue to push the UNSC to take actions on the situation of East Jerusalem. State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently proposed a five-point initiative on achieving security and stability in the Middle East, including upholding equity and justice and finding a sound solution for the question of Palestine. China is ready to enhance communication and coordination with the international community to facilitate the establishment of a fully sovereign and independent Palestinian State on the basis of the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital at an early date.
