On September 26, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met in Beijing with President-Designate for the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai (COP28 UAE) and Special Envoy for Climate Change of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber.

Wang Yi said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-UAE relations have maintained the momentum of sound and steady development. China is ready to work with the UAE to continue to understand and support each other on issues involving their respective core interests and major concerns, engage in high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, expand the fields of mutually beneficial cooperation, and continue to elevate the China-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.

Wang Yi congratulated the UAE on joining the big BRICS family as one of the first new members, and said that this will inject new impetus into BRICS cooperation, and will also open up new prospects for the China-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership. As a comprehensive strategic partner, China is glad to see that the UAE has played a bigger role in international and regional affairs. Wang Yi introduced China's adherence to the philosophy and practice of green and sustainable development, and said that China is an active advocate of and staunch doer in climate response. China fully supports the UAE in ensuring the success of the COP28 UAE, and stands ready to maintain close communication and cooperation with the UAE to ensure that the Conference will yield positive outcomes, promote the building of a fair and equitable system of global climate governance system for mutual benefits and win-win results, and safeguard the legitimate right to development of developing countries.

Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said that the UAE and China have solid mutual trust, and a solid foundation for cooperation, and the UAE is firmly committed to the UAE-China comprehensive strategic partnership of long-term friendship. The UAE highly appreciates the vision of a human community with a shared future put forth by President Xi Jinping, speaks highly of China's important contribution to global sustainable development, and appreciates China's leadership and responsibility in international cooperation in climate response. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber thanked China for providing the UAE with great support in the preparation of the COP28 UAE, and said that the UAE looks forward to working with China to make the Conference a historic success.
