On October 24, 2023, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and met with UAE Minister of State Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh. The two sides had an exchange of views on China-UAE relations and the current situation between Palestine and Israel.

Zhai Jun said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, China-UAE relations have made significant progress. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the China-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership, and next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China is willing to work with the UAE to push forward China-UAE cooperation in various fields to a higher level. The current situation between Palestine and Israel is severe, with huge civilian casualties caused by the conflict and a worsening humanitarian crisis. China is deeply saddened and concerned over this situation. The pressing task is to help de-escalate the situation, end hostilities, increase humanitarian assistance, and prevent the spillover of the crisis. China and the UAE share similar positions on the Palestinian question. China is willing to strengthen coordination with the UAE on multilateral occasions such as the UN Security Council to play a constructive role in de-escalating the Palestine-Israel situation and preventing the expansion of the conflict.

Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh said that the UAE and China enjoy a profound and strong relationship and fruitful cooperation in various fields, support each other on multilateral occasions, and maintain close communication and coordination on international and regional issues. The UAE is regretful about the large number of civilian casualties caused by the Palestine-Israel conflict, and calls for an early ceasefire and providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza, so as to protect the basic human rights and needs of the people in the area. The UAE attaches great importance to China's role and influence, and stands ready to work with China to promote an early, comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian question.
