On April 15, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian of Armenia, who was in China to sign the Memorandum on accepting Armenia as a dialogue partner of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) with Secretary-General of SCO.

Wang Yi extended warm welcome to Armenia for joining the big family of SCO, and believed that the Armenian side will play a positive role in promoting the development of the SCO and cooperation in various fields. Last year, President and Prime Minister of Armenia in succession visited China or came to China to attend meetings. Both leaders reached important consensus on promoting bilateral relations, enhancing mutual trust, and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation. China stands ready to work with Armenia to maintain high-level exchanges, and conduct various forms of cooperation around co-constructing the Silk Road Economic Belt in areas including infrastructure construction, production capacity cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Edward Nalbandian expressed that the SCO is an important regional multilateral international organization. Paying high attention to the cooperation with the SCO, Armenia actively supports and echoes China's initiative of co-constructing the Silk Road Economic Belt, and welcomes China to actively participate in various domestic and regional economic cooperation projects in Armenia, as well as strengthen cooperation in law-enforcement and security.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional situation.
