President Armen Sarkissian of Armenia Meets with Wang Yi

On May 26, 2019 local time, President Armen Sarkissian of Armenia met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the President's Office.

Armen Sarkissian asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings to President Xi Jinping. Armen Sarkissian expressed that connected by the ancient Silk Road, Armenia and China enjoy a long-standing friendship, with deep feelings between the two peoples. The Armenian side highly values China's status as a major country, and admires China's development achievements. In Armenia, there has always been a solid public opinion foundation for developing friendly relations with China. The joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) put forward by President Xi Jinping is a great vision, and will surely become a great project changing the world. Highly appreciating the BRI, the Armenian side stands ready to actively participate in and become an indispensable cooperative partner in the process of the joint construction. Chinese enterprises including Huawei are welcome to actively participate in the national development and construction of Armenia, so that the two countries can achieve common development in new and high technology. Meanwhile, Armenia is ready to continue to deepen cooperation with the Chinese side in logistics, mining exploitation, infrastructure construction and other traditional fields, in a bid to constantly benefit the two peoples. The Armenian side is full of confidence in Armenia-China relations and the prospect of bilateral cooperation.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's greetings to Armen Sarkissian, and noted that both China and Armenia have a long-standing history and splendid culture. The ancient Silk Road has connected the two peoples a long time ago. The two countries have always enjoyed mutual understanding and mutual respect in history. Under the care and support of leaders of the two countries, China-Armenia relations have maintained a sound and stable development momentum since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. Appreciating the Armenian side for supporting and actively participating in the BRI, the Chinese side believes that Armenia will become an important cooperative partner in the joint construction process. The Chinese side will continue encouraging Chinese enterprises to invest and establish business in Armenia to boost Armenia's development and construction, and is willing to take the opportunity of building a global partnership on connectivity to elevate bilateral cooperation in various fields to new stages.

On the same day, Wang Yi also met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia and held talks with Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan of Armenia.
